Musquodoboit Harbour, Port Hood, Judique & New Glasgow among Nova Scotia communities celebrating International Trails Day

Mosquodoboit Harbour Fun-For-the-Family Bike ‘n Walk Outing

When: Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Where: Meet at Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S. – Park Rd parking lot, behind the arena.

Bring: Water, snacks & fruit, proper gear, as well as bug dope!

Cycling Route: We suggest going – as a maximum – as far as the bridge at Turtle Cove. This area has lovely scenery as well as a picnic shelter and washrooms. As a bonus, it is located on the shores of Bayer (not Bayers) Lake. There is a small beach area where children can splash along the shoreline.

(Note to cyclists: Should you take it upon yourself to go further than Turtle Cove Bridge there is a sandy trail section just beyond the 6km mark before reaching Kelly’s Meadow. This section is a serious challenge for thin-wheeled road bikes. Beyond the bridge at Kelly’s Meadow the trail gets rough and can present a challenge for any type of  bike.)

Walk or Stroll: Prefer just a short walk ? The steel truss bridge over the river is just a few steps from the parking lot; there are scenic rest spots with benches every so often – and the first (southerly) 4 km of our rail trail is wheelchair * and stroller friendly !!

*Unfortunately, the initial wheelchair access to the trail, although doable, is a challenge. We plan major improvements to that aspect of our trails in 2012.

Water will be available (within reason) free of charge – for those who may have not planned properly! Contact Mosquodoboit Trailways Association if you need more info.
