Green acres host the Saskatchewan Trails Association’s AGM

Attendees to the 2012 Sasktachewan Trails Association enjoy a cake in honour of the Trans Canada Trail's 20th anniversary and its volunteers.

On March 31, 2012, the Saskatchewan Trails Association took advantage of its Annual General Meeting to discover an acreage nestled within the Qu’Appelle Valley just west of the town of Lumsden, population 1,600.

From this green segment of the Trans Canada Trail northwest of Regina, the STA discussed the Trans Canada Trail’s involvement in local trail development as well as challenges and issues faced – but also took the time to enjoy a cake celebrating the Trail’s 20th anniversary and recognizing the important efforts put forth by volunteers throughout the years.

One of highlights of the meeting was a discussion led by Amber Jones, of the Meewasin Valley Authority, who recently helped develop a provincial trails strategy for the provincial government with a special focus on the Trail. This strategy included outlining roles for organizations; adopting standards for trail building, stewardship and maintenance; reviewing STA’s core operations; the need for trail funding and the creation of an ATV policy.
